WGP 78: Giuliana Cosnard defeats Suellen Bitencourt and becomes the first Argentine champion of the WGP.

The WGP Kickboxing wrote the final chapter of the 2024 season this Saturday, December 21, in Cascavel, Paraná. And there was no shortage of excitement in the year's final edition. The Ciro Nardi Gymnasium, in the Paraná city, saw the organization crown fulana de tal as the new champion of the Women's Flyweight division (up to 52kg). After a five-round battle, the Argentine Giuliana Cosnard defeated the Brazilian Suellen Bitencourt by unanimous decision and became the first champion of the category. Other highlights of the night were the knockout victories of Brazilians Vinicius Mestrinier and Heliazir Estefani over Peruvian Leo Vilela and Paraguayan Guido Cardozo, respectively. Allyson Campos and Angel Bogado also put on a great fight, with the Cascavel athlete coming out on top as well. Another winner of the night was Angelo Cantizani, who defeated Thiales Kaiser and André Furquim to win the Lightweight GP. Now, the WGP wraps up activities in 2024 and will return in the first months of 2025.

The main fight of WGP 78 put face-to-face the historic rivalry between Brazil and Argentina in the battle for the unprecedented title of the women's flyweight division. The host Suellen Bitencourt and the visitor Giuliana Cosnard starred in an exciting fight and thrilled the audience present. With both alternating good moments during the match, the result was only decided in the final moments. After five rounds, the victory and the inaugural belt of the flyweight division went to Argentine Giuliana Cosnard, who made history and became the first Argentine champion of the WGP.

Brazilians come out on top against foreigners

In the Special Fights of the night, more excitement. In the co-main event of the night, Brazilian Vinicius Mestrinier gave no chances to Peruvian Leo Vilela. With his traditional aggressive style, he charged forward and ended the duel with a beautiful knockout still in the initial round. The two matchups between Brazil and Paraguay also favored the hosts. First, Allyson Campos fought a war against Angel Bogado and benefited from the fact that his opponent didn’t make weight, starting the fight with two points less to win unanimously. The fight between Heliazir Estefani and Guido Cardozo had a similar scenario. The Brazilian went on offense from the start and achieved a great knockout in the second round to the delight of the crowd.

The Lightweight GP put four athletes from the region head-to-head seeking a place in the category's ranking. In the first semifinal, Angelo Cantizani and Thiales Kaiser had a war in the ring. In the end, Angelo came out on top winning by unanimous decision. In the other semifinal, André Furquim gave no chances to Wagner Ferreira and won by knockout in the third round. In the grand final, a true war lifted the crowd present at the Ciro Nardi gymnasium. The two finalists put on a show with several twists and turns. At the end of the three rounds, Angelo Cantizani emerged victorious to take the Lightweight GP title. Both athletes received a warm applause from the audience.

The Super Fights of the night brought together three matches that excited the crowd in Cascavel. In the first duel between Brazil and Argentina, the host Ryan Formaio proved to be much superior to the opponent Ivan Villalba and won by unanimous decision. In yet another match between Brazil and Paraguay, the visitor Ariel Villalba didn’t let the Brazilian crowd unsettle him and comfortably defeated Tiago Queiroz after dominating all three rounds. In the women's duel between Mariana Nunes and Rayane Canetti, there was much balance. After three intense rounds, Mariana came out on top, winning unanimously.

In the Undercard, two women's fights opened the night. And the Brazilian Jackeline Oliveira shone by knocking out Paraguayan Jazmin Almiron with a beautiful kick to the midsection still in the first round. In the duel that kicked off the night, Raissa Liege was the better one, defeating Debora Miranda unanimously.
