Dispute System
The majority of WGP Kickboxing fights are held under K1 Rules, except for special occasions when Brazilian titles from the Brazilian Confederation of Kickboxing (CBKB) or Pan-American titles from WAKO are contested in other modalities, such as Low Kicks or Full Contact.
In addition to generally promoting at least one title fight per edition as the main attraction (main event), WGP has also developed, since the first editions, the Grand Prix (GP), which is a tournament with four or eight athletes competing in all fights on the same night, with two fights (semifinal and final) in the case of four athletes and three fights (quarterfinals, semifinal, and final) in the case of eight athletes.
Starting from edition 25, the four-athlete GP system was adopted by the organization to determine the next challengers for the current champions in each category. This tournament is called the “Challenger GP,” contested among 4 athletes, and its winner earns the right to challenge the category champion in another event to be determined. At WGP #49, due to the number of skilled athletes in the category, a Challenger GP with eight participants was held, where the athletes faced off in a quarterfinal, semifinal, and final bracket.
The other challenges in the main programming, paired individually, are called Special Fights and Super Fights, which accrue points in the ranking for the participating athletes. The card for each WGP edition is divided into three parts: Undercard, Super Fights, and Main Card.
The Undercard (preliminary fights) features matched fights generally to promote and give experience to new talents. The Super Fights are also matched fights and involve the participation of more experienced athletes who seek to rank among the best in their category within the organization. The Main Card consists of matched fights called Special Fights and features more experienced, renowned athletes who are ranked higher in the organization's standings. It is also on the Main Card that the Challenger GPs and the organization’s title fights take place.
