The WGP Kickboxing was set in motion in 2025. On the night of this Saturday, March 29, the city of Brasília hosted the first edition of the year. And the emotions were not lacking. The main fight, although it did not count for the Lightweight title (up to 60kg), after the challenger Edgar Boca failed to make weight, excited the audience present. The champion Cabelo Monteiro proved his status as king of the division and knocked out Boca in the second round after a beautiful sequence. In the co-main event, Marcio de Jesus and André Martins fought a great battle, with de Jesus taking the win by split decision. Another highlight of the night was João Pedro Simão's victory over Felipe Chaves in one of the Special Fights of the night. The next edition of WGP will take place on April 26, in Aracaju, Sergipe, with Gustavo Jones defending the Super-Middleweight title for the first time against Marcos Carvalho.
Cabelo Monteiro crushes and entertains the crowd
In the main fight of WGP 79, the title was no longer at stake after Edgar Boca failed to make weight on the afternoon of this Friday, March 28. But the emotion was not lacking. Champion Cabelo Monteiro entered with massive support from the crowd present in the gym. And inside the ring, he met expectations. Dominant from the first minute, he gave no chance to his opponent and knocked him out in the second round. The co-main event of WGP 79 excited the audience present at the Cruzeiro gym in Brasília. Marcio de Jesus and André Martins engaged in a three-round battle. After much movement, Marcio's greater striking power earned him the victory by unanimous decision.
The fight between João Pedro Simão and Felipe Chaves was marked by balance. After intense rounds, João was the better one, winning after Chaves abandoned in the third round. The main card of WGP 79 also featured an international fight between the Argentine Rodrigo El Lento and the host Rafael Sonak. The two delivered a true war inside the ring, with the Brazilian coming out on top by split decision. In the fight that opened the main card, João Victor and Edson Pânico also delivered an electrifying match. After three closely contested rounds, João emerged victorious by split decision.
Among the Super Fights of the night, there was much emotion. Ariel Villalba and Augusto Almeida shone. Paraguayan Villalba imposed himself on Lucas Buakaw, who accepted the last-minute matchup, and won by knockout in the second round. Augusto dominated Kauan Lee throughout the bout to win by unanimous decision.
