WGP 84: champion Cabelo Monteiro wins the All-Star GP and dominates the Lightweight division

The division titleholder won three fights in the same night this Friday, the 19th, at the gym inside Morumbis Stadium in São Paulo, and also claimed the All-Star GP trophy to become the undisputed champion in the division; Ravy Brunow returned with a victory.

The biggest stand-up fighting event in Latin America closed out the year in style this Friday, November 19. The gymnasium at Morumbis Stadium in São Paulo was the stage for a historic edition to mark the 2025 season. WGP Kickboxing 84 featured the final stage of the Lightweight All-Star GP as its main attraction, crowning category champion Cabelo Monteiro with the trophy after three insane bouts. The journey actually began in November at WGP 82, when 16 athletes in the up to 60kg division kicked off the tournament in the round of 16. After electrifying matchups, eight remained alive in the competition. And on this night, Cabelo shined by beating Jhonatan Costa, Jackson Elitelmo, and Argentine German Badallo in the grand final. With the win, he secured his status as the undisputed king of the division, with the category belt and the trophy as the great All-Star GP champion.

WGP 84 was once again held in partnership with the City Hall and the Department of Sports and Recreation of the city of São Paulo, with support from councilman George Hato, a longtime ally in supporting martial arts and athletes in the state, under his slogan “More Sports, Less Medicine,” with the idea of encouraging sports practice in the fight against mental and physical health problems. Admission was free, upon donation of 1kg of non-perishable food, which was donated to a charity.

The All-Star GP started with the quarterfinals already setting the tone for the night. Francisco Mairon, with all his background built in Muay Thai, fell to Watson de Castro, a Kung Fu specialist who once again showed personality despite having less experience to win by majority decision. In the only international clash of the GP, Edgar Boca and German Badallo delivered another chapter of the classic Brazil vs. Argentina rivalry, in an intense and closely fought matchup with Badallo coming out on top by unanimous decision. Paulo Victor Madureira and Jackson Elitelmo also had a very even bout, decided in the details of the final round. And the one who came out ahead was Jackson, thanks to his greater impact in the final part of the fight. Closing out the quarterfinal stage, division champion Cabelo Monteiro lived up to his dominant track record against Jhonatan Hora, keeping the category spotlight alive by winning by unanimous decision.

With the crowd engaged and the pace high, the semifinals turned up the heat even more at the Morumbis Stadium gymnasium. And in the first semifinal, the night’s first knockout also arrived. Argentine German Badallo landed a beautiful knee on Watson de Castro to win and move on to the grand final. On the other side, category champion Cabelo Monteiro delivered a great battle against Jackson Elitelmo, so evenly matched that it had to be decided by tiebreak criteria. Having won the last round, the champion got the edge and advanced to the final. The grand final crowned the best performance of the tournament and the category, as champion Cabelo Monteiro came out firing and dominated Argentine German Badallo from the first minute to win convincingly and become, definitively, the king of the division with the belt and now the All-Star GP trophy. He enters the hall of the organization’s greatest athletes.

In addition to the tournament, the card featured two other fights that thrilled the crowd. The return of Ravy Brunow, after a serious jaw injury, was one of the most anticipated moments of the night. A former champion and one of the organization’s longest-tenured athletes, he delivered an intense bout against Mateus Machado and won by majority decision, to the delight of the fans in attendance who backed him every minute.  In another Special Fight, Brazilian Thel Henrique got the gymnasium roaring by convincingly defeating Argentine Valentin Fouine and celebrating with the crowd. On the Undercard, Mateus Santos and Leandro Dias opened the event with wins over Petterson Oliveira and Jorginho Garcia.
