WGP Kickboxing is back in Espírito Santo. Eight years after the last edition in the state, Latin America's biggest striking event arrives in the city of Serra, a municipality neighboring the capital Vitória, on November 22, for a historic edition that promises to shake up the region. Arena Jacaraípe hosts edition 83 with a stacked card and a main event that could go down in local sports history: Espírito Santo native Denis Jr. faces Argentine champion Tomás “Chacal” Aguirre for the Super-Lightweight belt (64.5kg).
The bout, one of the most anticipated in recent years at the event, pits two of the division's top names against each other in a true South American classic. Denis Jr., who earned his spot after winning the Super 8 Challenger GP in three elimination bouts, fights at home with the crowd behind him and is aiming for the top of the division. On the other side, Chacal defends the belt for the fourth time and also Argentina's dominance in the division. The full card will be announced soon, and the bouts will be streamed live on WGP's official YouTube channel and on Canal Combate throughout Brazil.
The event will be held with the support of the Association of Contact Sports, Culture and Leisure of ES (Assecles), which has played a key role in the development of martial arts in the state, as well as the Serra City Hall through the city's Secretariat of Tourism, Culture, Sports and Leisure, which is also a great ally in encouraging the practice of contact sports in the region. Admission will be free with the donation of 2 kg of non-perishable food, which will be collected at the arena entrance and donated to charities in the region. The expectation is for a packed house and a vibrant crowd supporting the athletes from Espírito Santo.
WGP Kickboxing is the largest professional event of its kind in Latin America. Created in 2011, it has already held more than 80 editions in various cities in Brazil and around the world, under the sanction of the Brazilian Kickboxing Confederation (CBKB) and WAKO PRO. The event brings together the continent's best athletes in matchups that follow the highest technical and organizational standards.
