WGP Kickboxing ends the year with the Lightweight All-Star GP finals in São Paulo

Latin America’s biggest stand-up fighting event is back in São Paulo to close out the season in grand style. On December 19, WGP 84 takes over the Morumbi Stadium gymnasium to decide who will be the big winner of the Lightweight All-Star GP. The tournament began at edition 82 in November, when the 16 best athletes up to 60kg entered the ring to fight in the round of 16. Now, after an intense first phase, the eight warriors who secured their spots return to the ring: Cabelo Monteiro, Jhonatan Hora, Paulo Victor, Jackson Elitelmo, Edgar Boca, German Badallo, Francisco Mairon and Watson de Castro. They will face off in a single night that brings together the quarterfinals, semifinals and the grand final, with the GP trophy and the chance to fight for the division title at stake, except, of course, in the event of a win by champion Cabelo Monteiro. The event also features the matchup between Ravy Brunow and Mateus Machado in the Welterweight division as a highlight. Live coverage of the main card will be on Canal Combate starting at 9:00 p.m.

The WGP 84 will once again be held in partnership with the City Hall and the Sports and Leisure Department of the city of São Paulo, with support from councilman George Hato, a longtime ally in support of martial arts and athletes in the state. Through support for various sports, always guided by his slogan “More Sport, Less Medicine,” Hato seeks to encourage sports practice in the fight against mental and physical health problems. Admission will be free, upon donation of 1 kg of non-perishable food, which will be collected at the entrance and donated to a charity.

All-Star GP showdown with all fights on the same night

The final event of the season promises another memorable chapter in the history of WGP Kickboxing. After five events held this year, Latin America’s biggest striking event arrives for its final act of the season. And there is no shortage of expectations for the year-end showdown. WGP 84’s main attraction is the final phase of the Lightweight All-Star GP, whose first phase was already set with plenty of excitement at edition 82. Now it’s time for the quarterfinals, semifinals and the grand final. All on the same night.

The first quarterfinal pits two athletes at very different points in their careers against each other.

A multiple-time Muay Thai champion, 36-year-old Francisco Mairon from Maranhão was a major target for the organization and made his WGP debut exactly in the tournament’s round of 16, dominating and defeating Paraguayan Fabrizio Alcaraz by unanimous decision. With a career record of 27 fights and 22 wins, he now faces an athlete with less experience than him, but with the same hunger for victory. Pernambuco’s Watson de Castro entered the GP at the last minute after one of the athletes failed to make weight and showed what he came for. He defeated favorite Teodoro Ruiz by unanimous decision and secured his place in the next stage. At 26 years old and with important amateur Kickboxing titles, he has a background in Kung Fu and has collected several titles, as well as more than 80 wins in the discipline. He is considered a promising talent from the team of Hector Santiago, a former WGP champion.

Another bout that promises excitement is the tournament’s only international fight. Edgar Boca and German Badallo put on a Brazil vs. Argentina clash that will get people talking. The Brazilian, a former title challenger, recovered from the setback he suffered in the title fight and delivered a strong performance in the round of 16 by defeating Angelo Cantizani unanimously. In WGP he has seven fights, the Challenger GP title and only one setback, precisely in a title fight against champion Cabelo Monteiro. On the other side, Argentine German Badallo arrives on a roll. At 23 years old, he has four fights in the event, with three wins and one loss. In the round of 16 he knocked out Brazilian Nicolas Tardiolli, who had also entered the card at the last minute after one of the athletes failed to make weight. One interesting fact is that of his 11 career wins, seven were by knockout.

In the third quarterfinal, the matchup is between two athletes who have been standing out for their performances in the WGP ring. At 20 years old and a native of Macaé, in Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Victor Madureira has important amateur accomplishments and impressed with his technique the two times he stepped into the event’s ring. In his debut, at edition 80, he delivered a strong performance against Luanzin Rios and won by unanimous decision. In the All-Star GP round of 16, he defeated experienced Fernando Mineiro by knockout in the second round and advanced. On the other side will be Jackson Elitelmo, another promising athlete with great results in the amateur scene. The Alagoas native has 11 wins in 13 career fights, two of them in WGP. In his debut he defeated Marcos Gabriel and at WGP 82 he advanced to the All-Star GP quarterfinals after overcoming favorite Leandro Jobu with a great performance. At 21, he is one of the youngest on the card alongside Paulo Victor.

Last, in the fight that closes the quarterfinals, the presence of division champion Cabelo Monteiro against Jhonatan Hora. At 26, Cabelo reigns supreme in the division and will defend his legacy of 14 fights in the event, with 12 wins and only two losses. He has been champion since 2024 and has already defended the title twice. In the round of 16 he showed all his talent by giving Yuri Costa no chance and winning by knockout in the second round. On the other side, Jhonatan Hora is betting on his experience to surprise the champion. At 27, he has an impressive 41 career fights, with 36 wins. In the opening phase of the All-Star GP he faced Chilean Felipe Artillero and had no trouble winning by knockout in the second round, also advancing to the next stage.

The event also features five other confirmed fights. The highlight is the return of Ravy Brunow to WGP after a serious jaw injury suffered at edition 74 in 2024. A former champion of the event, Ravy has already returned to action some time ago and recently fought for the Brazilian Boxing title. He is one of the record holders for fights contested in the event and has a long history with the organization. This time he faces Mateus Machado, an athlete from Brasília and teammate of Cabelo Monteiro. Mateus is also on the rise in the event after moving up a weight class, and the clash between the two promises plenty of excitement. The card also has four other confirmed undercard bouts. More fights will be announced soon to complete the full card.More fights will be announced soon to complete the full card.
